China - A saviour or destroyer of the health industry.

An article on Generic Medicine.

China is presently the biggest supplier of pharmaceutical chemicals many tons yearly to the world. What's more, pharmaceutical organizations that purchase these chemicals do test them. At the point when an importer bought heparin from China in 2007, it completed all required tests. Be that as it may, the tests at the time were not able to identify the contaminant that brought about lethal hypersensitive responses, and the perilous medication snuck past. Undoubtedly, it was an uncommon case; not very many issues escape MNC organizations or the bigger of the Indian generics makers.

Testing is not almost as dependable at the little organizations of India and in emerging markets, and questionable pharmaceuticals have multiplied over the creating world sometimes with deadly consequences. But notwithstanding for MNC firms, dangers remain, essentially from little, difficult-to-distinguish imperfections, for example, follow polluting influences brought on by negligence. Scientists found that the organization of 2 out of 3 diverse duplicates of the medication was outside of affirmed specifications. And for as long as four years, analysts working has examined more than 2,000 items from markets. Around 5% were substandard—either because of the suspect or under-dosed fixings or to improper definitions that made the right fixings insoluble.

The potential for a calamity in our nation is developing. In the imports of pharmaceutical chemicals by law, pharmaceutical firms must purchase chemicals exclusively from confirmed assembling plants. Several pharmaceutical industry specialists in China secretly show that up to 25% of fixings obtained in Chinese organizations originate from obscure sources. This is extremely dangerous because if any of these chemicals were below average and risky than the products made with them could cause problems in patient’s recovery from their illnesses, or even could be life-threatening.Lower-quality items can lead to dangerous shortages. In China, poor oversight, corrupt control, and carelessness are liable to hold on in bargaining drug quality can cause genuine harm to rising wellbeing commercial enterprises. The Chinese medication controller has a mind-boggling undertaking in regulating a quickly extending and as of now incomprehensible industry.

The Sustenance and Medication Organization has built up an office in China and is expanding examinations of the plants that fare in any case, it is exceptionally understaffed. At best, it can survey every site just once every 13 years. There are no straightforward answers for this issue. With medicinal services costs rising, the possibility that we ought to pay considerably more for medications by boycotting Chinese suppliers is an extreme offer. And all organizations must give authentications to FDA about inventory network of chemicals they purchase, not only the last phase of creation.
Only our vigilance can protect us and our loved ones!!!

Virtual doctor- One of the coolest doctor

It’s becoming increasingly popular to consult with an online physician rather than a real-world physician. As these Virtual Doctor initiatives continue to gain traction across the nation, they have the ability to challenge what many of us hold as the very core of the classic healthcare experience: the in-person doctor’s visit. Ten years from now, will it seem quaint that any of us would prefer a costly face-to-face consultation rather than a quick chat with a virtual doctor located somewhere in the medical cloud?

Technology is helping to address the primary weaknesses of what is now a bloated healthcare system, the difficulty of getting a doctor's visit when you want it, and the ever-increasing co-pays for a quick visit to a real-world doctor.

The good news is that there appears to be no drop-off in quality when providers shift to virtual care. Most studies show that online doctor visits are just as effective as in-person doctor visits. One study even showed that the amount of communication between doctors and patients increased during these virtual visits. Internet innovations on what is, by any standard, a cost-ineffective healthcare delivery system. If an online doctor can make healthcare cheaper and faster, without sacrificing any quality, it's hard to see how this Telehealth trend won't accelerate.
As is the case with most new technologies, the adoption of telemedicine will be incremental. It also will be transformative. For example, when smartphones first appeared, they were an expensive luxury to buy, and some experts wondered whether consumers needed or wanted to carry a computer in their pocket. And when Amazon first started selling books online, few imagined consumers buying everything from refrigerators to wedding gowns on websites. The trend of Virtual Doctor will follow a similar path as cost pressures and consumer demand continue to build.

Generic medicines: A great alternative

The greatest wealth is health. If you are healthy physically and mentally the whole family is healthy. With the rising prices of medicines and drugs, it was becoming very difficult for everyone to be in proper health. Not everyone is able to afford a fortune for their treatment. That is why it was important to find a cheaper and better solution to healthcare.

Generic medicines were introduced then as a cure for costly medicines. These are the exact copies of the brand name medicines taken for similar symptoms, same causes, taken in exactly the same dosage, has similar effect and side-effects in the body. The brand name medicines are the medicines that are first made/ launched by a company. It is chemically and biologically verified and passed on further to get license and permission to be distributed in the market. These medicines get the FDA approval and patents for few years to be marketed solely. The patents protect the drug manufacturing company and allow it to be the only seller in the market so that their manufacturing expenses are all covered up and they get some profit. After the patent expires, others can also use the same chemical formula and make that medicine. Also, they get the license to sell it in the market at remarkably lower prices. About 30-60% of the price is reduced and sold. These medicines are called Generic medicines. Because of them, the competition decreases and cost of the medicine reduces.

Coming to whether these medicines are as effective as their brand-name counterparts, the answer is yes. They are chemically the same and as effective as the brand name medicines. The Generic medicines also have the license approved by FDA, so they are completely safe.

Now no need to worry about the money when it comes to health. Keep yourself and your family healthy and happy.

Rise of technology, rise of health care -Telehealth

In the era of technology, even the medical check-ups and doctor consultation are making large use electronic and technical devices. As the technology is advancing every day, there is a need for the advancement in the medical system as well.  Telehealth is the new and easy way of providing healthcare facilities to the patients online.

In the present times, almost everyone has a smartphone or a computer and almost everyone has access to the internet. And the lack of health care access to low-income residents in both rural and urban areas present a significant challenge in chronic disease treatment. So to make it easy for everyone, many health service-providing groups or companies are putting a step forward to give people easy and cost effective medical treatment facilities.

Virtual visits with a doctor can take place by video call, phone call or text message, or via the Web or a mobile app. Telehealth allows patients to contact doctors from long distances, ask for their advice and gain knowledge. It allows video conferencing to discuss a problem between patient and doctor, or between two clinicians.  Setting up reminders, intervention, patient monitoring and their remote admissions are also possible.

Telehealth requires both the patient and physician to go through a series of steps for standardized care to be delivered. Before meeting with a doctor, scheduling and transfer of a patient’s health record are extremely important. In fact, no appointment can be carried out without the physician having prior knowledge about the patient’s history. During the appointment, input can only be provided on observation from the physician only and information found on the patient’s record, all of which must be done in accordance with HIPPA.

Telehealth provides consumers with:
1. Fewer hospital readmissions
2. Life-saving diagnoses and treatments
3. Lower costs
4. Improved care
5. Doctor-patient engagement in rural areas

5 Suggestions When Getting a Second Medical Opinion

If you are being diagnosed with a severe medical condition, you should consider another physician for a second medical opinion. Not because you should not trust your first physician, but because you need to become more aware of your illness and different points of view can help you consider your options for treatment.

Below are seven considerations that you should always keep in mind when receiving a second medical opinion:

1. Is there an agreement?

The obvious and fundamental question, to begin with, is "Does the second doctor agree with the first diagnosis and its implications?" if not, you should consider a third opinion and also a consultation at a university hospital or an academic center.

2. What are the best 2-3 treatment options?

What are the best 2-3 treatment options and what are the benefits, risks, and cost of each treatment? Unfortunately, medicine as economic and business factors often overlap the judgment of a practitioner. This is not because they mean to misguide you intentionally, but there are financial incentives involved and you need to try to understand their potential influence on doctors.

Because of this, it is good to get a choice of treatment options, preferably including natural options. Natural options will have to come from a holistic doctor, as most general practitioners are taught that natural remedies are trickery - that medicine is often just another way of saying that the option is not a good business. A good holistic physician is more likely to guide you on the based on science and the research for natural.

3. What if I do the most conservative treatments recommended by my first physician or nothing at all?

For most medicines or medical procedures, presuming the risk is a bit higher than reported, as most studies are made in "best case" scenarios. Because of this, if the risk of a conservative approach is not really far superior to the recommended treatment, we personally will decide to be a conservative one. To put this in perspective, our reading of data suggests that deaths occur from medications and medical procedures are the fourth major cause of death- and is largely ignored by standard medicine.

4. Get the second opinion from a doctor who has a different background.

In general, if the first opinion came from a doctor in a specific area of expertise, consider the second opinion from someone of a different but related specialty. If you get a second opinion about surgery, consider getting your opinion from a non-surgeon.

5. Consider taking a second opinion from a holistic doctor.

A holistic physician can offer a very different set of options. At Mediklik get a second medical opinion on your condition from the various set of doctors of a different specialty.

Telemedicine || Advantages and disadvantages

Everything seems to be connected these days and the internet is what is making this change but do you know that you can connect to your doctor using technology. It is a revolution in this field, people can connect to a specialist of their field even if they are miles away.
Can you imagine a time when healthcare will be available anytime and anywhere?

Types of Telemedicine

It is having three main categories:

Remote patient monitoring

The vital signs of patients can be monitored by a nurse or a medical professional from a distance.

Store-and-forward

This helps in sharing of patient's information from one location to another.

Interactive

Interactive telemedicine is a real-time session with a professional which can be conducted in a home or nearby medical facility by means of video conferencing or on a telephone.

The advantages are

1. Improved Access

It improves access to both patients and physicians. The patient can sit in the comfort of their home or in a rural area which is far from the required facility. On the other hand, the physician can also do the consultation from their office and don't have to go to that place.

2.Cost Effective

It saves both time and money which is wasted in traveling and thus is very cost effective.

3. Improved Quality

People in the rural area or in small towns which are devoid of the specialist now have easy and fast access to the specialist.

Disadvantages are

1. Electronic glitches

The fast internet which is the core technology of this revolution is devoid of most of the people, especially in the rural areas.

2. Physician resistance

Physicians are resistance when it comes to adopting new technology, especially in healthcare.

3. Inadequate assessment

It is still missing the human touch, Technology can not replace the feel and experienced touch of a physician which is required in many diagnoses.

The bottom line is that this technology if adopted by physicians can save a lot of time, money and a lot of lives of human beings.

Remote Patient Monitoring-Get Treatment Wherever You Are

Remote Patient Monitoring or RPM is a technology which includes regular monitoring devices such as sugar monitoring of a diabetic patient. Data thus collected is sent to a specialist by using internet-based tools.

We saw RPM in action when my grandfather was suffering from a disease called Parkinson. This disease causes stiffness in arms and legs and he was unable to move. My Father, a renowned physician had set up a whole monitoring system in his bedroom and used to monitor his every vital sign. Monitoring helped him to know what drugs to give and what his father is going through even when he was busy.

This is what remote monitoring is used for all the data is stored in a relational database and a specialist can view it at any instance and find trends.

Now, with the new machine learning concepts, these trends can be even generated by the system and can help early diagnosis of a disease.

Remote Patient Monitoring is used very beneficial for old people and people with chronic disease. Monitoring them keeps people healthy, allow elderly and disabled people to live in the comfort of their home and avoid the travel.

Rpm has one more benefit it reduces the number of patients in a hospital and for a country like India where there is a lack of hospital beds, this can help improve the situation.

This is a part of Telehealth and Telemedicine which is now changing the healthcare industry. People and Doctors are more connected and thus help in reducing the time and money in the treatment of patients. This seems in a way that it will increase the cost of treatment but it is not always true. Patients who need constant monitoring can now be at their home and thus save a lot of money.

Generic medicines: A relief to medical expenses

generic drug
In recent months, our Prime Minister announced to make it mandatory for doctors to prescribe only generic names and not brand names of drugs as an attempt to bring expensive drugs to poor Indians.

Generic medicines typically cost 30% to 60% less than their brand-name counterparts. They are the copies of brand-name drugs that have exactly the same chemical composition, method, and technique of making, usage, effects, risks and safety as the original drug. In other words, their pharmacological effects are exactly the same as those of their brand-name counterparts. An example is Paracetamol and Amoxycillin.

Now the question arises, are the generic medicines as safe as brand name drugs? Before answering this, it is important to know what exactly these drugs are, and some similarities and differences between them.

Brand name drugs also known as innovator drugs, initially marketed as new chemical entities, whose first versions are sold by innovator manufacturer. When any company makes its new drug, they have patents for some duration. It protects the company and doesn't allow anyone else to make and sell them. Generic products become available after the patent protection afforded to a drug's original developer expire. Once they enter the market, competition leads to lower prices for both the original brand-name product and its generic equivalents.  But, first, they must test the drug and the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) must approve it. Generic medicines are produced under the license of the manufacturer of the original brand-name product, with the lower-cost equivalent often introduced after the drug’s patent has expired. So yes, generic medicines as effective and safe as brand name drugs.

Online Doctor Consultation- Is it helpful to go for it?

The answer is an affirmative and definite yes; Telehealth offers a great solution and an alternative to a brick and mortar clinic to get real-time consultation and advice on treatment options. According to a global survey conducted by a reputed news site, due to the technological revolution, 80% of health problems can be solved online. This trend of Telemedicine and Telehealth is growing and becoming more and more popular around the world both in under-served and modern medical university centers. A report also states that over half of hospitals in America offer Telehealth services. It helps them reduce health care costs, offer better health services and increase their overall efficiency, revenues, and bottom line.

An online doctor consultation is convenient and easy to use especially for those who live in remote areas and have busy work schedules. By using a video conferencing technology based smartphone applications and online management systems, physicians can connect to patients and diagnose them. It is also an alternative to traveling to a clinic, a medical center, a hospital or a health center.

Here are some points to help you understand the importance of online doctor consultation services.

Convenient patient care

Technological upgradations in the healthcare industry allow patients to access healthcare services from anywhere. There is no need to take off time from your work schedules and visit a doctor. Convenience is the fundamental benefit of modern online healthcare services.

Telemedicine services are evolving, even without touching the patient. A doctor can diagnose and prescribe various medications and advise on the different treatment modes for their patients. The use of several Telehealth tools has increased the credibility of this sector.

Increase patient quality

Patient-centered approaches improve patient care quality. Doctors can quickly deal with healthcare issues and patients can also learn about different treatment options within minutes. A new study shows that telehealth has reduced hospital admissions due to depression, anxiety, and stress.

Telemedicine offers patient-centered approaches which improve the timeliness of care. This is critical to quality patient care. Patients can address healthcare issues quickly with real-time urgent care consultations and learn about treatment options within minutes. This obviates the need to go to an Emergency room in many cases.

Wider reach-

With the help of advanced telemedicine services, doctors can reach up to a wider geographic area. To enhance the reach, it is important to engage patients through telemedicine, as it helps them maintain appointments and nursing schedules. It is also possible to build a good relationship by encouraging patients to adopt healthy lifestyle choices.

Access to specialists

When it comes to serious health problems, it is advisable to consult with the best specialists. However, you need to invest a lot of time on each visit. Telemedicine technologies not only allow patients to quickly access medical specialists but also access primary care physicians. This allows care of a wide range of health problems.

Pros and Cons of using generic drug

Generic medicines are those that contain the same active ingredient, the ingredient takes part to cure the condition in which the medicine is used for treatment, in the same amount as a brand medicine. Generic medicines, therefore, have the same effect on the body in terms of curing the disease as branded medicines.

However, generic drugs are sold under a different name and may contain several inactive ingredients that give the product its taste, shape, smell, etc. but which do not affect the body to ease the health condition compared to brand counterparts. it should not be confused with fake drugs, which are illegally manufactured copies that may or may not contain the same active ingredient.

The type and quantity of the active ingredient in the generic product are the same as the branded version, but the inactive ingredients are slightly different. Generic medicine is sold under a different brand name and may look different for example in color or shape to the original.

Generic drugs seem to become increasingly popular when it comes to major brand drugs, including many heart-related medicines such as statins and blood pressure medicines. But exactly how safe are generic drugs when it comes to keeping your heart healthy? Let's look at some of the pros and cons of generic medicines below.

Pros-

Cheaper prices. The main reason why so many people buy generic drugs is that they are much cheaper than brand drugs. Brand name drugs require research and testing that takes a lot of time and money, but generic drugs should only copy what's already existing, saving them and allowing the price to remain low.

Bioequivalent. Biologically, generic drugs must comply strict guidelines so that the same amount of active ingredient is delivered to the body at the same time and used by the body, just as the brand name drug.

Approved by the FDA. The FDA establishes rigorous guidelines and carries out research on generic medicines to make sure they are bioequivalent to the branded drug.

Healthy heart. According to a recent study, generic heart medications show the same medical results as brand drugs.

Cons-

Contamination. Generic medicines are often manufactured in factories in countries like India, China or other areas with labor and overhead. The conditions of these factories have sometimes contaminated drugs. To be honest, however, there have been some cases where US-based drug medicines also had similar problems, though probably not nearly as often.

Oversights. According to a report by the government accountability office, these foreign factories sometimes escape FDA's strict inspections, skip the documentation of their practices, and do not receive follow-up monitoring even when serious production problems or drug management problems have been identified. Generally, only one manufacturer produces a branded drug while several manufacturers can produce a generic drug. While the FDA insists on the bioequivalence of the active drug, sometimes there may be slight differences in the drug or inactive drug delivery system for the drug. These differences rarely lead to a clinically significant problem for the patient, although in rare cases a patient may have a sensitivity or intolerance to a different type of fillers or delivery system.

Mixing up the pills. Because brand drugs generally have a consistent "branded" look for them that patients can get familiar and comfortable with, generics often do not seem familiar or is not as obvious as every pill is. Also, when a prescription is refilled, if the drug is made by different generic producer and has a different appearance, this can lead to confusion of medication confusion and mistakes or even patients not taking the pills they are prescribed.

Physicians remain divided. Many medical professionals are still divided on the use of generic drugs for heart disease, leaving some persistent doubt in this area. Some specific medications, including thyroid supplements and blood thinners, have shown significant clinically meaningful problems when switching from brand to generic or between generics.
